Zoe Gray
Director

Zoe Gray (she/they) is so thrilled to be bringing King Lear to NYU Shakespeare in the Square with this incredible cast. They are a director, actor, singer/songwriter, musical theatre composer, and playwright in their final year at NYU Tisch Drama. She has studied with the Classical Studio and Experimental Theatre Wing, using her positions as Drama Student Council Representative and Executive Director of Shakespeare in the Square to cultivate an ethos of inclusion and radical empathy in her Shakespearean theatrical practices.

Previous directorial work includes As You Like It and For the Love of God, and original works Six Months to the New World, The Body (staged reading)and Love and Death in Elsinore (selections). You may have seen her onstage as Brutus (Julius Caesar), Katerina (Taming of the Shrew), Mercutio (Romeo and Juliet), or Edmund (King Lear). Upcoming projects include directing the trans and non-binary-centered production GENDERF*CK TWELFTH NIGHT and helming a workshop of their newest musical, the Hamlet prequel Love and Death in Elsinore.

They would like to thank Kam, Asta, Flora, and Kenzie, for their steadfast support during this process; Laura Levine, for the essays; Daniel Spector, for the technique; Olivia, for the inspiration; Sabrina, for the love; and Mom and Dad for everything, always.
