Alex Maynegre-Torra has built a versatile career as a collaborative pianist, orchestral pianist, solo performer, and music editor. Since 2010, he has served as a collaborative pianist at the Butler School of Music at The University of Texas at Austin, performing with faculty, guest artists, and students. He has also held positions at the Meadowmount School of Music, the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and the Hartt School of Music in Hartford, Connecticut.
As the principal keyboardist of the Austin Symphony Orchestra, Maynegre-Torra has appeared as co-soloist in Carnival of the Animals by Saint-Saëns with pianist Jeffrey Biegel, and as soloist in Stravinsky’s Capriccio for Piano and Orchestra in February 2020, as well as Haydn’s Concerto in D Major, Op. 11.
A prizewinner in several competitions in both his native Catalonia (Spain) and the United States, Maynegre-Torra has performed in concert with numerous distinguished artists, including cellists Lynn Harrell and Bion Tsang; violinist Joseph Silverstein; the Emerson String Quartet; saxophonist Stephen Page; trombonist James Markey; and tubist Demondrae Thurman, among others.
As a recording artist, he can be heard on the EPs The Saxophone Music of Florent Schmitt and Earthly Round with saxophonist Stephen Page, as well as on a CD of three violin sonatas recorded with fellow ASO member David Denizon. As a music editor, his piano reduction of Bloch’s Schelomo is published by Ovation Press.
