Jeremiah Sanders
Baritone

Baritone Jeremiah Sanders is earning praise for “vocally powerful” (KDHX) performances and their “robust voice and a f lair for comedy” (Herald Times) in classical and contemporary operatic repertoire.

In the 2026-27 season, Sanders makes their highly anticipated debut in the title role of Falstaff with Heartbeat Opera in NYC. They also make their Austin Symphony Orchestra debut in Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti as a member of the Jazz Trio, directed by Jamie Bernstein. Sanders returns Cedar Rapids Opera as Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd and Lyric Opera of the North as Papageno in The Magic Flute. Sanders was invited to present a recital of American Opera at Chesterwood in Stockbridge, Massachusetts in 2026 and returns as the baritone soloist in Carmina Burana with the Iowa Chamber Singers.

Sanders opened their 2024-25 season with concert performances with the Indianapolis Opera and Skylark Opera Theatre. They performed in Stravinsky’s Pulcinella with the Manchester Symphony Orchestra, and sang as the baritone soloist in Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem with the Chamber Singers of Iowa City. Sanders also sang in the Augusta Symphony’s Opera Gala, covered the Duke in Opera San José’s production of Bluebeard’s Castle, and performed the roles of Leporello in Don Giovanni with Madison Opera and Germont in La Traviata with Opera Today.

Sanders spent two seasons as a Resident Artist with the Minnesota Opera, where they performed roles including Marcello in La Bohème, Abilene’s Father and Bryce’s Father in Edward Tulane, Mago in Rinaldo, and Hortensius in La fille du regiment. They also played the role of Beau in Service Provider, about which Talkin’ Broadway wrote, “he skillfully handles vocal duties with his robust voice, while showing a flare for the libretto’s comedy.”

Sanders has also been heard with the Lakes Area Music Festival, South Bend Lyric Opera, Opera Saratoga, Des Moines Metro Opera, Union Avenue Opera, and the Symphony Orchestras of Lima (OH) and Indianapolis.

Sanders has found success on the vocal competition circuit, winning the Kurt Weill Award in the Lotte Lenya Competition, securing district wins with the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition in Kansas City and Indianapolis, and taking first place in the Opera Ebony Voice Competition and the Friends of the Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition. An avid recitalist, Sanders enjoys interpreting the works of the Romantic, 20th century and contemporary periods.

A lifelong musician, Sanders grew up singing in church choir with their Madea (Great-Grandmother) in Marion, Indiana, and went on to study classical voice at Manchester University, Butler University, and Indiana University, where they earned their Doctorate in 2024. Sanders currently resides in Iowa City and serves as a visiting professor in voice at the University of Iowa.
