is a filmmaker, playwright and essayist. His films include Emma, Nicholas Nickleby, Company Man and Infamous. He was nominated for an Oscar for the screenplay of Bullets Over Broadway. He has made two documentaries for HBO: His Way, about the legendary music promoter and movie producer Jerry Weintraub, and Becoming Mike Nichols for which he received an Emmy nomination. His book for Beautiful was nominated for the Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Awards. His other plays include his adaptation of Edith Wharton’s The Age of Innocence and Checkers. His essays have appeared in the New Yorker, Vanity Fair and Air Mail.
