Bruce Caldwell (Saxophone) is an Adjunct Professor of Music at Southern Wesleyan University and a freelance musician. During his career, Bruce has performed with numerous acts including The Four Tops, The Drifters, Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs, Danny Seraphine (Chicago), Rob Arthur (Peter Frampton), Ricky Byred (Joan Jett), Jeff Carlisi (38 Special), Liberty DiVitto (Billy Joel), Will Evankovich (The Guess Who), and Rusty Milner ( Marshal Tucker Band). He performs locally with Dana Jones and the Bruce Caldwell Project, The Back 9 Band, The Sterling Waite Band, and The Carolina Coast Band. Bruce has been nominated twice for “Instrumentalist of the Year” by the Carolina Beach Music Association. In addition, the recording of “I Count the Tears” by Dana Jones and the Bruce Caldwell Project was ranked number one on the national beach music charts for three months during 2019. Bruce was also the first recipient of “The Golden Apple Award” for educational excellence presented by WYFF TV. Bruce is a graduate of Western Carolina University and Furman University. Prior to his retirement from public education, he was the band director at South Florence High School for 5 years and Wren High School for 30 years. He and wife Judy have been married for 48 years. They have one son, Jordan, who resides in Charlotte.
