Savvy Thompson (Tilly) Savvy Thompson is a Charleston native turned local Upstate actor & dialect coach. You may know them from their time with Centre Stage; playing roles such as the Maria Delgado in 9 to 5, Celisse in in Godspell the Musical, as well as behind the scenes; dialect coaching for Once: The Musical, All is Calm, & Beautiful, the Carol King Musical. Savvy initially debuted the role of Tilly when …& Getting Caught In the Rain was first presented in the New Play Festival in 2022 and fell in love with the script. As a theatre artist, Savvy feels emotional and proud to finally have a role that fully represents them as a non-binary person. This is their first opportunity to play a character that matches their gender, and they are proud of Centre Stage for taking such bold steps for queer inclusion and representation in theatre. This play is for every queer person in the south. This statement is for the audience, from Savvy: “I urge the audience to sit with an open mind and listen; even if it confuses you or makes you uncomfortable. Different isn't bad, just different. Let this piece introduce non-binary people to you as humans, people deserving of respect. Even though you may not understand someone's identity, you can still respect and love them for who they truly are. Thank you to Cary Doyle, Savannah Smith, Harbin Humpfries, Tori & Jay Hilbourn, Drake, Andrew, Piper & Jacob McFayden, & Alexandria & Ian Coulter; my found family. Thank you for seeing me and accepting me for the person I truly am. I love you guys more than you’ll ever know. Cheers, queers.”
