Sebastian Zavalza is a proud Mexican scenic designer who recently obtained his MFA in Scenic Design at Carnegie Mellon University. Sebastian was born in Mexico City, a global cultural destination that fostered his interest and skill development within different areas in the design world. Having been raised and obtaining his bachelor's degree in Product Design in his home country (Mexico), a specialization in Interior Design in Florence, Italy and an MFA in Scenic Design in the U.S., Sebastian has developed a comprehensive international worldview that greatly influences his designs and collaborative skills resulting in engaging multidisciplinary works.
It is his first season at the Chautauqua Theater Company as the Scenic Design Fellow. His recent theatre credits include Abide at OISTAT Romania Myths & Algorithms International Gala (Romania); Cabaret, Matilda the Musical JR and The Knight at Dawn KIDS Musical at Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School and Camp (USA); Mean Girls the Musical for Obertura Compañía (Mexico); and Mexican Folkloric Ballet for ITESM Queretaro (Mexico). Lear and John Proctor Is the Villain and Titanic at Carnegie Mellon (USA). He's also had Scenic Design assistantships for the shows You on the Moors Now and A Little Night Music at Carnegie Mellon University. His Interior Design credits include Grupo Ramón García (Spain & Mexico) developing brand identity through product display for luxury brands (Bimba Y Lola), and Amsterdam Furniture (Mexico), which focuses on luxury materials and furniture for high-end living spaces.
