Ewan Manalo
Cello

Ewan Manalo was 4 years old when he started cello on an instrument borrowed from his first teacher, Wendy Bissinger. Ewan quickly fell in love with learning and making music, and his musical development outpaced his instrument size; he was happy to finally grow into a ¾ size cello so he could start learning the “big pieces,” like the Dvorak cello concerto. After moving to Tennessee, Ewan studied with Annie Camp, before being awarded a Myra Jackson Blair Scholarship which allowed him to study with Felix Wang of Vanderbilt University for his high school years. Now a sophomore at the University of Michigan, he is studying cello performance with Richard Aaron. Ewan has performed numerous solo recitals in the Chattanooga and Nashville areas, and has soloed with orchestras across the Southeast United States. Ewan has also been instructed by and has participated in masterclasses with artists such as Darrett Adkins, Colin Carr, and Alison Wells, as well as members of the Jupiter quartet, Cavani quartet, and Horszowski Trio.
