August Strindberg (1849-1912) was a Swedish playwright, novelist, poet, and painter.  A prolific writer who often drew directly on his personal experience, Strindberg wrote more than 60 plays including Master Olof, The Father, Miss Julie, and Creditors, and more than 30 works of fiction during his career which spanned four decades.
