Xiaoyu Liu is a bass trombonist from China, currently completing her DMA at the University of Iowa, where she also serves as a teaching assistant in the trombone area. She earned her Bachelor's degree from the China Conservatory of Music in Beijing and her Master's degree, along with a Performance Diploma, from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music. Xiaoyu is making history as the first female bass trombonist from China to pursue a doctoral degree. In addition to her studies, she is a low brass instructor at Grinnell College and Central College at Iowa State, where she actively mentors and cultivates the next generation of brass musicians.
