Chloe Kitzmiller
Viola

With a decade of experience in viola performance and education, Chloe Kitzmiller is
bringing a fresh perspective to the profession with her creativity and unique approaches to music
making and teaching. At Oberlin Conservatory under the tutelage of Peter Slowik, she has had
many opportunities in the local community as a private instructor with four current students and
as a section coach for the Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra. Her mission is to break down
professional barriers between community members and the conservatory by working closely
with each entity to make education more accessible, inclusive, and affordable. This is in
conjunction with furthering her own unique viola sound, offering insightful interpretations to
standard viola repertoire, and to pieces beyond the viola canon.
Chloe has been fortunate enough to be able to attend several summer music festivals as a
chamber musician, orchestral musician, and as an educator. Festivals include Eastern Music
Festival, Round Top Music Festival, Tianjin Juilliard Orchestral Symposium, and Lutheran Summer Music, where she held leadership positions and had several teaching opportunities in their string fellowship program.
In addition to working on her viola performance degree, she is getting an integrative
concentration in Pedagogy, Advocacy, and Community Engagement. This has not only allowed
her to gain new perspectives and hone her teaching ability, it has allowed her to organize and run
a community based project, NOYO’s first, “Viola Day”. This project is about making resources
from Oberlin Conservatory more accessible to viola students from Lorain County
