Polish American mezzo-soprano Matilda Smolij is an undergraduate student at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Recently, Matilda performed as the mezzo soloist in Beethoven's Mass in C as well as in the roles of Juno in Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld, Cherubino, in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, and Third Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. In 2023, Matilda will perform the role of Zita in Puccini’s opera Gianni Schicchi. Matilda recently collaborated with the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Houston for a concert of Polish music and will perform a recital as the 2022 winner of the Marcella Kochanska Sembrich Competition for Polish singers at the American Council for Polish Culture Convention in San Antonio this summer.
