Gabriela Linares, a Puerto Rican mezzo-soprano, ethnomusicologist, and graduate of Oberlin Conservatory, is completing her master’s degree in voice performance at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Some of her instructors include Rhoslyn Jones, Kevin Korth, Kimberly Saunders, and Marlene Rosen. Gabriela Linares has performed solo and choir concerts with Orquesta Sinfónica de Puerto Rico (Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra), as well as recitals and concerts at La Escuela Libre de Música in Hato Rey where she began her formal musical training. She performed in Oberlin Conservatory’s productions of Le Nozze di Figaro, Angel’s Bone, Trouble in Tahiti (Dinah), Dialogues of the Carmelites (Mère Marie), and Cosi Fan Tutte (Dorabella). At the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Ms. Linares has performed in the productions of Giulio Cesare (Cornelia) and Hansel and Gretel. She has been featured in masterclasses with professionals including Sasha Cook, Lisette Oropesa, Marilyn Horne, Brian Zeger, Marlena Malas, and Margo Garrett. Gabriela recognizes the importance and value of music that represents diverse communities, identities, and our times. Ms. Linares founded the Oberlin Latinx Music Union in the fall of 2018, and since then has been involved in various community engagement projects. During the fall of 2021, Gabriela joined the San Francisco Girls Chorus faculty as their Level I Director. Her aspiration is to expand the lens from which music is perceived and promote a repertoire that celebrates diversity, multiplicity, social justice, and humanity.
