Mezzo-soprano Lucy Baker has been performing as a classical singer from a very young age. This past spring, she graduated from DePaul University’s School of Music, where she was in the studio of Amanda Majeski. She made her operatic debut as Hansel in Hansel and Gretel with DePaul Opera Theatre, and also sang the roles of Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro and La Notte in L’Egisto while at the University. In 2018 Lucy sang the roles of Maman and La Tasse Chinoise in Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges with Music Academy International in Fiera di Primiero, Italy. In the summer of 2020, Lucy sang the title role in Handel’s Serse with the Chautauqua Institution’s first online program and has returned in 2021 to cover Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in the Chautauqua Opera Company’s production of Scalia/Ginsburg. In concert, Lucy has been featured as a soloist with numerous DePaul ensembles, including the Ana María Martínez Gala as a part of the Unveiled Festival to commemorate the opening of the Holtschneider Performance Center. She was also selected to represent DePaul at a Chicago Bulls game by singing the National Anthem. She has been a regular competitor with the National Association of Teachers of Singing (N.A.T.S.) for many years, winning multiple awards at the state, regional, and national levels. Most recently, Lucy was awarded first prize in her category for the Chicago Chapter and was also a winner of the Edith Newfield Award with the Musician’s Club of Women in Chicago. In Fall 2021 she will continue her training at the Curtis Institute in the studio of Julia Faulkner.
