LaDejia Bittle
Mezzo

LaDejia Tenille Bittle, Mezzo-Soprano, just recently completed her Master of Music degree in Opera Theater at The University of South Carolina where she studied with Rachel Calloway. She was a finalist in USC’s Concerto-Aria Competition for the 2022-2023 school year. Her roles performed with Opera at USC include the role of “Elizabeth Proctor” in Robert Ward’s The Crucible, “The Third Lady” in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, and “Zefka” in Janáček’s The Diary of One Who Disappeared. As a choral fellow with the Spoleto Festival USA, LaDejia sang in the world premiere of Rhiannon Giddens and Michael Abels' Omar. She also recently appeared as “Polly” in the Chautauqua Opera In Schools production of Bear Hug. She sang "Nerone" in Chicago Summer Opera's production of L'incoronazione di Poppea. Her previous roles include "Hansel" (Hansel and Gretel), "Cherubino" (The Marriage of Figaro, Act II and Act IV Finale), and others with Wingate University Opera. Additionally, she has appeared as a soloist in The Messiah, Bach’s St. John Passion, Bach's Mass in B Minor, and John Rutter's Requiem. LaDejia also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wingate University (NC) where she majored in Vocal Performance. During her four years at Wingate, she was a part of both of the auditioned choirs, Wingate University Singers and Chamber Choir. She also sang in the United in One Gospel Ensemble which she directed for three years. Originally from High Point, NC, LaDejia's passion and gift for singing was fostered in the Black church, where she sang in church choirs, worship teams, and the liturgical dance and mime team. After graduating from Wingate, she taught chorus in the North Carolina Public School system for three years before pursuing her Master's.

LaDejia is the recipient of The Gellman Scholarship Fund.
