Laura Herrera, Venezuelan violinist, started her musical studies at the age of 7 at "La Casa de la Cultura" in Carora, Venezuela. She was a member of "El Sistema" in Venezuela and acted as Concertmaster of the "Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil Pedro León Torres". In 2017, she attended Interlochen Arts Academy and graduated with honors in 2018 to then start a Bachelor's degree in Violin Performance at Chicago College of Performing Arts-Roosevelt University where she was a student of Almita Vamos and Ming Huan Xu, and graduated in 2022 as magna cum laude. Ms. Herrera has attended well-known music festivals such as Interlochen Arts Camp, Chautauqua Music Festival, and Arthosphere Festival and has participated in masterclasses with renowned violinists such as Ilya Kaler, Charles Castleman, Robert Chen, Nancy Wu, and Jun Iwasaki. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in Violin Performance at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Benny Kim. Ms. Herrera joined the Kansas City Symphony sub list last fall. Recently, she was one of recipients for the 2023 KC Sigma Alpha Iota Scholarship Competition.
Laura is the recipient of The Penrose-Mahaffey Scholarship Fund.
