Fiona Shonik just completed her junior year at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music, where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance with a double major in Business. She currently studies with David Bilger (Former Principal Trumpet, Philadelphia Orchestra). Previous instructors include Thomas Rolfs (Principal Trumpet, Boston Symphony Orchestra), Michael Sachs (Principal Trumpet, Cleveland Orchestra), Channing Philbrick (Former Associate Principal Trumpet Lyric Opera Orchestra of Chicago), and Michael Blutman. At Northwestern, Fiona has performed with the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Brass Ensemble, and Chamber Orchestra. Fiona performs regularly with her brass quintet at Northwestern, On the Spot Brass. She has spent summers at various orchestra festivals, including the Chautauqua Institute in New York, the National Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Institute in Washington DC, the National Brass Ensemble Academy in San Francisco, and the New York State Summer School of the Arts School of Orchestral Studies in New York. Fiona is the recipient of the 2021 International Trumpet Guild Award, the 2020 Marguerite Suozzi Music Scholarship and the 2020 New York State Council of Administrators of Music Education Award. She was accepted into the NAfME All-Eastern Concert Band (2018) and the NAfME All-National Concert Band (2019), where she was principal trumpet. Fiona traveled to Greece (2020) and Portugal (2018) with the North Shore High School Wind Symphony as a soloist and principal trumpet.
Fiona is the recipient of the Hilda Jo Anne Milham Scholarship.
