Dane Magruder is an accomplished tenor trombonist and dedicated educator. He pursued his musical education at DePaul University in Chicago, IL, where he recently earned a Bachelor of Music degree graduating with honors. Dane's musical journey has included being a member of ensembles such as the DePaul Symphony Orchestra and the Lake Shore Symphony as well as appearing with DePaul Ensemble 20+ premiering several new works and performing with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. Dane's dedication to excellence extends beyond his regular performances. He has actively sought opportunities to expand his musical horizons through participation in various summer institutions including the Chautauqua Institution School of Music, Eastern Music Festival and the Raphael Méndez Brass Institute. As an educator, Dane has shared his expertise and passion for music in various settings. He served as a counselor at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in 2021, where he mentored aspiring musicians and contributed to their artistic growth. Furthermore, Dane has provided private trombone lessons to young students helping them develop their musical abilities and fostering a love for the instrument. Additional performances include participation in masterclass performances led by renowned artists such as Christian Lindberg, Megumi Kanda, and the American Brass Quintet. Dane has had the privilege of receiving guidance and mentorship from esteemed teachers and mentors throughout his time as a student. At DePaul University, he studied under the tutelage of Charles Vernon and Mark Fisher. Other teachers and mentors include Michael Warny, Tanner Antonetti, Stephen Burns, and Floyd Cooley.
Dane is the recipient of The Chautauqua Amateur Musicians Program (C.A.M.P.) Scholarship and The LaPenna-Koch Scholarship.
