Sean Yang
Piano

Sean studies with Logan Skelton at the University of Michigan. Sean was the winner of the Memphis International Piano Competition, Southern Division of MTNA Collegiate Competitions, and the Blair School Concerto Competition. He made his solo debut in 2016 performing Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3, and subsequent engagements include the Nashville and Vanderbilt Symphony Orchestra. Sean shares an equal passion for solo and chamber music. His piano trios have been Fischoff and MTNA Chamber Competition laureates, and in 2022 he was an MTNA National Finalist for both chamber and solo categories. He frequently performs the Brahms sonata cycle with violinists, and he received the Michelson Collaborative Pianist Award as recognition for his collaborative work at Vanderbilt University. Sean has spent his recent summers at the Bowdoin and Aspen festivals with Anton Nel, Julian Martin, and Douglas Humpherys. He studied with Amy Dorfman at Vanderbilt while earning a double major in Neuroscience and Piano. His research background includes redesigning ICU alarm monitors and investigating the benefits of listening to live classical music in the ICU. His research has been shared in major scientific journals such as Human Factors and Ergonomics Society and the International Journal of Critical Care.

Sean is the recipient of the Rizzolo Family Fund and the Genevieve Foote Findley Scholarship.
