Haozheng (Jason) Sun began his musical journey at the age of four when he started learning the piano. His early exposure to music laid a strong foundation for his later pursuits. At the age of ten, Haozheng expanded his musical repertoire by learning to sing, a skill in which he excelled, winning various prizes in regional competitions. This early success in voice competitions helped build his confidence and deepen his love for music.

When Haozheng was thirteen, he took his first cello lesson and immediately fell in love with the instrument. His passion for the cello quickly grew, and he dedicated himself to mastering it. He studied cello at the Middle School of the China Conservatory of Music for a year, where he received rigorous training and developed a solid technical foundation. This experience was pivotal in shaping his future as a cellist.

In August 2018, Haozheng was admitted to the prestigious Idyllwild Arts Academy. During his four years at Idyllwild, he studied under the esteemed cellist John Walz. This period was marked by significant artistic growth as he immersed himself in a comprehensive music program. Under John Walz’s mentorship, Haozheng honed his technical skills, explored a diverse repertoire, and developed a deeper understanding of musical interpretation.

Currently, Haozheng is a junior student at the Eastman School of Music, where he continues to pursue his passion for the cello under the guidance of Professor Steve Doane, a renowned cellist and educator. The Eastman School of Music provides an exceptional learning environment that fosters both artistic growth and academic excellence. Haozheng benefits from numerous opportunities to perform, collaborate, and engage with other talented musicians, further enriching his educational experience.

Throughout his musical journey, Haozheng has participated in various masterclasses, competitions, and festivals, each contributing to his growth as a musician. These experiences have allowed him to perform in diverse settings, receive feedback from accomplished musicians, and connect with a broader musical community.
