Jaewon Jun
Violin

Jaewon Jun is a violinist from Seoul, South Korea. Jaewon started playing violin at age of 7, and pursued intensive training attending both Sunhwa Arts Middle School and Sunhwa Arts High School, one of the most prestigious art schools in South Korea. She is continuing her musical journey pursuing Bachelors of Music at the Eastman School of Music under the guidance of Professor Renee Jolles. As a soloist, she has performed with the Prime Philharmonic Orchestra with conductor Yun-sung Chang, and performed in the “Rising Musician Concert” held by Kukje Art Hall in Seoul. Some of her other accomplishments include top awards in the 12th Korea Young Artist Music Concours, New York International Music Concours, East Coast International Competition, and 13th Phone Classic Concours. Jaewon has also had the immense privilege to perform in masterclasses for Rodney Friend, Eszter Haffner, Ilya Kaler, Mikyung Lee, Gerard Poulet, and Itamar Zorman.

As a recipient of the 2024 John Celentano Award for Excellence in Chamber Music, she demonstrated exceptional achievement in the study and performance of chamber music. For the last three years, she was a member of the Luna Trio which was formed at the Eastman School of Music with pianist Karina Tseng and cellist Taylor Yoon. The trio was selected three times to perform in Eastman’s Chamber Honors Recitals and was the national finalist of the 2023 MTNA Chamber Competition. This May, they received the Certificate of Achievement in Chamber Music at the Eastman School of Music. Beyond her chamber music achievements, Jaewon distinguished herself as the concertmaster of Chautauqua Music School Festival Orchestra and associate concertmaster of the Eastman Philharmonia.

Outside of music, Jaewon enjoys reading, doing pilates, and hiking. She also takes particular interest in cognitive science, in which she is concurrently pursuing a BA degree in Brain and Cognitive Science through the University of Rochester.
