Dylan Jowell
Cello

Growing up in Folsom, California, Dylan knew from the moment he picked up a cello that he wanted to be a professional musician. At 16 years old, he began attending California State University - Sacramento, becoming principal cello of the CSUS Symphony Orchestra, and winning the 2019 Watson Chamber Competition. He also earned a Letter of Commendation from Senator Richard Pan for solo and duet performances in the California State Capitol. After high school, Dylan completed a bachelor's degree in Cello Performance at Eastman School of Music, studying with Professor David Ying, and graduated as the sole Class of 2023 recipient of a Certificate in World Music.

Dylan is currently pursuing a master's degree in Cello Performance at the University of Tennessee – Knoxville Natalie Haslam College of Music, where he works as a Teaching Assistant to Professor Wesley Baldwin. In addition to teaching undergraduate cello lessons, he works in the Graduate String Quartet program for outreach concerts, helps administrate the UTK Cello Workshop, and serves as principal in the UTK Symphony, Chamber, and Opera Orchestras. Dylan has been chamber faculty in the Sacramento Youth Symphony's Summer Chamber Music Workshop for 4 consecutive years, and this year marks his first venture into conducting, directing the 2024 SCMW junior string orchestra. In his off time, Dylan enjoys volunteer teaching at the Joy of Music School, cooking and baking, and spending time with his older brother and their cat, Wilson.
