Sarah Stembel, soprano

Lyric Soprano, Sarah Stembel, a New Orleans native, has performed on several stages across the Gulf South. Having completed her Masters of Music degree in Opera Performance at the Maryland Opera Studio in spring of 2021, she has recently performed the roles of Violante (Sandrina) in the Maryland Opera Studio’s production of La Finta Giardiniera and Miss. Wingrave in Owen Wingrave with the Maryland Opera Studio and the National Orchestral Institute. In 2019, she played the role of Musetta in La Bohème with The Natchez Festival of Music and Mississippi Opera. In 2018, Sarah graduated with her BM in Vocal Performance at the University of Southern Mississippi. During her time at Southern Miss, she was in several productions with the Southern Opera and Musical Theatre Company, including Christine Daaé in The Phantom of the Opera, Yum-Yum in Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado, and in the ensembles of Turandot, Rigoletto, Carmen, and Tosca. She has also been in the ensembles of the Mississippi Opera productions of Turandot, Rigoletto, Carmen, and Tosca. In Fall 2018, Sarah won third place in the Student Artist category in the John Alexander National Voice Competition. In 2016, Sarah was a finalist and winner of several competitions including first place in the Gulfcoast Steinway Vocal Competition in Mobile, Alabama, second place in the Student Division of the Voices of Mississippi Competition, and the grand prize winner of the Delta Symphony Concerto Competition. Sarah currently studies with mezzo-soprano, Delores Ziegler.
