What is your favorite Dayton Ballet memory? 
My favorite memory at Dayton Ballet has definitely been when we were working on our Sapphire Celebration Repertory show. We had repetiteurs come to the studio where we learned choreography all day for about three weeks. The rehearsal process, while challenging, was a lot of fun.

What has been your favorite role so far?
My favorite role so far has been Light Rain by Gerald Arpino. I love performing in large company pieces, so having a lot of dancers on stage doing what we love really inspires me.

What do you think you’d be doing if you weren’t a professional dancer?
If I was not a professional dancer I would like to be involved in Politics or Government in some capacity. It is something I would like to pursue one day, so I would probably be in school for that right now if I was not dancing!

What do you want patrons to know about you?
I am currently at Sinclair College finishing up my Associates in Liberal Arts Studies, which I am able to to do through Susan Kettering’s Next Step Fund.

What advice would you give to aspiring dancers?
Advice I would give to any aspiring dancer is that it is so important to have a work – life balance. While it is so important to work hard and strive to be the best artist you can, be sure to enjoy your life in other ways so you can appreciate your art when it is time to work.

Eric McIntyre grew up in Roanoke, Virginia, where he began dancing at the age of eight at a local competition studio. At age 15 Eric began training at Southwest Virginia Ballet, where he danced the lead role of Romeo in Romeo and Juliet and other lead roles in The Nutcracker and multiple original works choreographed by Pedro Szalay.

Eric was a part of the Richmond Ballet Trainee program and Virginia Commonwealth University’s BFA Program for two years, where he performed with the company in Journey, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Stoner Winslett’s The Nutcracker, and new works from Mate Szentes and Matthew Frain. Upon finishing up his two years in the trainee program, Eric was promoted to Richmond Ballet’s second company, where he spent one year and performed in Carmina, George Balanchine’s Theme and Variations, and Swan Lake.

Eric is looking forward to his second season with Dayton Ballet.
