Murrella Parton
Soprano

Murrella Parton makes her Santa Fe Opera debut with her comedic portrayal of Berta in Il barbiere di Siviglia. A 2022 apprentice, she joins the choruses of Carmen and the world premiere of M. Butterfly. Later in the summer she takes the stage for the apprentice scenes programs as Elisabeth in Don Carlos and The Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier. Mrs. Parton has been described as "magnificent" and praised for her "commanding voice" by Arts-Lousville for her portrayal of Older Alyce in Tom Cipullo's Glory Denied with Kentucky Opera (2019). During the 2020 season, Mrs. Parton was a virtual Gerdine Young Artist with Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. In the 2018/2019 season, she was the resident soprano in the Kentucky Opera Sandford Studio Artist program where she made her professional debut as First Lady in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and was seen as Hannah / Sheva in Ben Moore's Enemies, A Love Story.

Ms. Parton was a Finalist for The Laffont Competition (2021), previously known as the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in which she was a Semi Finalist for the 2019 season. She is the winner of the Sergio Franchi Award at the Vero Beach Rising Starts Competition (2021), the second prize winner of the Premiere Opera Foundation Competition (2021), a Finalist for the Eleanor McCollum Competition (2020), and the Grand Prize winner at The Orpheus Vocal Competition (2020). She is the winner of the Soprano Award and the Second Prize in the Young Patronesses of the Opera Competition (2019), Second Prize at the Opera Columbus Cooper-Bing Competition (2018), First Place in the Cincinnati Women’s Club 3 Arts Competition (2016), and the Italo Tajo Award (2018), the Andrew White Award (2016) and the Seybold-Russell Award (2015) from CCM’s Opera Scholarship Competition.

Ms. Parton has performed in the Cincinnati Opera Chorus for productions of Le Nozze di Figaro and Roméo et Juliette, Wagner's Der fliegende Holländer and the American premiere of Julien Bilodeau's Another Brick in the Wall. In 2018, she had the opportunity to workshop the role of Sabina in Rufus Wainwright's newest opera, Hadrian, with Opera Fusion: New Works. She has performed the roles of Nella in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, Ginevra in Handel's Ariodante, Elettra in Mozart’s Idomeneo, Fiordiligi in Mozart's Così fan tutte, Sylviane in Lehar’s The Merry Widow, and in the choruses of Puccini's La Bohème, Massenet's Cendrillon, and Gilbert & Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance. In addition to operatic repertoire, she has been a featured soloist in concerts of Finzi's In Terra Pax, Handel's Messiah, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Vivaldi’s Magnificat, Bach’s Magnificat, Bach's Mass in B minor, Bach's Ascension Oratorio, and Mozart's Requiem.

Mrs. Parton holds an Artist Diploma in opera and a Master of Music in vocal performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and a bachelor of music in vocal music education from the University of Tennessee Knoxville.
