Allison Deady
Mezzo-soprano

Allison has the start of a promising career, possessing a voice and stage presence that is captivating audiences. This season Allison made her company debut at Opera Tampa singing Lola in Cavalleria rusticana. She was also seen with Knoxville Opera as Marta in Mefistofele and Marchellina (Figaro) with Peach State Opera. At the beginning of the season, she was featured in the inaugural production of Franklin Light Opera, Cendrillon as Aramlinde. This past summer she was a festival member of the 2022 Spoleto Festival USA premiering Omar, a new work by Michael Abels & Rhiannon Giddens.

A champion of new works, Ms. Deady has premiered numerous operas starting with Speed Dating, Tonight! by composer Michael Ching and Sister Carrie written by Grammy-winner, Robert Aldridge. Last summer Ms. Deady performed in the Film adaptation of Lily by Garth Baxter. She will join the world premiere of Girondines with Wilmington Concert Opera in October.

Previously Allison was featured with Nashville Opera as a Mary Ragland Emerging Artist, where she performed Persephone in Hercules v. Vampires (Morganelli) and Mrs. McClean (Susannah). She has been seen as a studio artist at the Chautauqua Opera Company under the direction of Maestro Steven Osgood. While at Chautauqua, Allison was featured in the Studio Artist scenes program as Diana in Francesco Cavalli’s La Calisto. Other performances include Lola (Cavalleria Rusticana) and Edith (Pirates of Penzance) with Knoxville Opera. Allison has also worked with the Janiec Opera Company singing roles such as Meg Page (Falstaff), and Mrs. Herring (Albert Herring). Other favorite roles include Elizabeth Proctor (The Crucible), Tisbe (La Cenerentola), Secretary (The Consul), and Prince Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus). Allison trained with Music Academic International in Mezzano, Italy where she performed Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel) and with the American Institute of Music Studies, where she placed in the Meistersinger Competition. She has also furthered her acting training at the renowned Chicago Acting Studio.

Allison has a storied history as an outreach performer including roles such as Ruth (Pirates of Penzance) with Opera For The Young’s touring cast and covering the role of Mother in Chicago Lyric Unlimited’s production of Earth to Kenzie by Frances Pollock & Jessica Murphy Moo. This season she will perform outreach with Baltimore Concert Opera.

Allison is an advocate for a changing operatic world. She passionately believes that opera should strive to be inclusive and accessible to everyone. This inclusivity must happen from every level of the process and be supported by all members of the operatic community. Allison received her undergraduate degree from SUNY Fredonia and her Masters from the University of Tennessee. Ms. Deady is a native of Rochester, NY.
