Alan Snow was appointed Concertmaster of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and first violin of the Eykamp String Quartet at University of Evansville in June of 2018. Since his performance with the Oistrach Symphony Orchestra at age 13, Alan has performed solo and chamber works internationally, including appearances at Chicago’s Symphony Center, London Symphony Orchestra St. Luke’s, la Sala Manuel M. Ponce in Mexico City, and others. Previous concertmaster appointments include the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, Terre Haute Symphony, Britten-Pears Young Artists Program, and Music Academy of the West. Alan has performed under the baton of esteemed conductors such as John Williams, Sir Simon Rattle, Stéphane Denève, Franz Welser-Möst, and Gustavo Dudamel.
Alan has won several competitions, including being a semifinalist at Windsor Festival International Strings Competition, grand prizes at the Walgreens National Concerto Competition, the LAMC Recording Competition, the Saint Paul String Quartet Competition, and honorable mention at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. As a winner of the Keston MAX Fellowship, Alan played under Sir Simon Rattle and the London Symphony Orchestra in 2019. Previous collaborations include performances with Rachel Barton Pine, James Buswell, Martin Chalifour, Jorja Fleezanis, and Eric Kim. Alan has also worked closely with the Pacifica and Takács Quartets and has participated in concertmaster training seminars led by former concertmasters of the New York Philharmonic and Minnesota Orchestra.
Recent performances include the Brahms Double Concerto with the Evansville Philharmonic, a radio broadcast on Chicago WFMT Radio, solo and chamber recitals at the University of Evansville, and the Eykamp String Quartet's new chamber music series entitled, “Connect and Celebrate: New Traditions.” Alan appears on two studio albums: Diálogos and Voices of Mexico's Past and Present.
A Chicago native, Alan studied with Gerardo Ribeiro at Northwestern University before receiving his Bachelor of Music degree from Indiana University under Sibbi Bernhardsson of the Pacifica Quartet and Alexander Kerr, concertmaster of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
