TAIWAN NORRIS, an internationally hailed, grammy award winning, lyric tenor, has been blessed to share his gift all over the world. In 2019, those gifts made room for his inaugural performances at the esteemed Metropolitan Opera of New York! He has graced such stages as the Grand Theatre de Geneve, Komische Oper Berlin, Hamburgische Staatsoper, Dvorak Hall in Prague, and Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, Italy. Mr. Norris recently made his debut at New York’s prestigious Carnegie Hall. Taiwan also performed the lead role of Paul Laurence Dunbar in the world premiere of A Mask in the Mirror: The Marriage of Paul Laurence Dunbar and Alice Ruth Moore with Trilogy Opera Company of NJ. Other roles include Remus in Treemonisha, Mayor Kenneth Gibson in The Three Mayors and Uncle Crosby in Emmit Till with Trilogy. Norris has also taken his musical talents to Quito, Montevideo, Santiago, Buenos Aires and many other South American cities. In 2008, Taiwan made his Lyric Opera of Chicago debut as Robbins in Porgy and Bess. He has also appeared in numerous productions with Opera Philadelphia, New York City Opera, and San Francisco Opera and travels internationally as a soloist with the renowned American Spiritual Ensemble. In June 2008, he was selected as a finalist in the Harlem Opera Theatre Vocal Competition held at the world famous Apollo Theatre. He began his musical journey at Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, DC and holds a B.A. in Vocal Performance from Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD.
