Jonathan Chern
Violin

Born and raised in Plano, Texas, Jonathan Chern is a violinist where he was most recently a member of the New World Symphony. He attended Pinchas Zukerman’s Young Artists Program, where he worked with Pinchas Zukerman and Grigory Kalinovsky, and studied chamber music under the tutelage of Shmuel Ashkenasi and Nicholas Mann. Mr. Chern had the privilege of serving as Concertmaster at National Orchestral Institute and Round Top Festival, under the baton of James Ross and Michael Stern.

He is also a passionate chamber musician where he has performed with members of the Ying Quartet and Stefan Hersh and worked closely with members of the Pacifica Quartet. Mr. Chern loves teaching and has taught students of all ages. His main approach with new students is to find out what their goals are and why they want to learn the instrument. Once that is established, he can move forward with violin lessons that are tailored to every individual's needs.

Mr. Chern has spent summers assisting students at Indiana University’s Summer String Academy, at Manhattan in the Mountains in Hunter, New York, and at the Iber Academy in Medellín, Colombia where he taught masterclasses and private violin lessons. Mr. Chern holds Master of Music and Bachelor of Music degrees from the Jacobs School of Music, where he studied primarily with Grigory Kalinovsky and Jorja Fleezanis. He was also selected to perform in master classes for Shmuel Ashkenasi and Stephen Rose, as well as collaborate with Joshua Bell.
