Charlie Wilson

First name Charlie. Last name Wilson. After achieving thirteen No. 1 singles and Grammy Award nominations respectively, the former Gap Band lead vocalist shows no intentions of slowing down. Originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, Charlie Wilson began singing with his siblings in the church choir while his mother played piano as accompaniment.

Charlie would eventually rise to fame as the lead singer in the Gap Band, which also featured brothers Robert & Ronnie Wilson, & other Tulsa natives. The band had many successes throughout the late 70’s and 80’s, with their third album, “The Gap Band III” becoming No. 1 R&B and No. 16 on Billboard 200.

By 1992, Charlie set out to make his own mark on history as he began his solo career. Touted by L.A. Times as, “a legacy act as beloved by nostalgists as he is taken seriously by aesthetes,” Charlie would find the most success during his solo career where he released several chart-topping R&B hits. and even becoming an artist future generations would sample.
