Henry From
Piano

The first prize winner in the under-17 category of the 2018 Montreal Symphony Orchestra Manulife Competition, Henry From was named by Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as one of its Hot Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30 for 2019.

He has performed on National Public Radio’s From the Top, as well as KING FM's Northwest Focus Live. Mr. From has also performed piano concerti with several orchestras, including Mozart’s No. 12 in A major in Minneapolis, and Beethoven’s No. 3 in C minor and Ravel’s G major in Vancouver, BC. Mr. From's piano trio, Trio Savyon, has performed in Boston, Warsaw, Calgary, and the Rockport Chamber Music Festival, and gave a seven-city tour of Israel in 2017.

Mr. From has studied composition with Edward Top at Vancouver Academy of Music for five years. His compositions have been premiered by ensembles such as Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, members of Seattle Symphony, Whatcom Chorale, Vancouver Chamber Choir, Turning Point Ensemble, and Standing Wave Ensemble.

He was named winner of the 2020 Canadian Music Centre Prairie Region Emerging Composer Competition and received awards in the 2020 BMI Student Composer Competition and the 2021 SOCAN Young Composer Competition for his solo and large ensemble works. Mr. From is an associate composer of the Canadian Music Centre and holds an associate diploma from The Royal Conservatory in Toronto.

His music studies began with violin at age three with Sandra Payton and piano at age five with Donna Lee Leung. He currently studies piano with Amanda Chan at Vancouver Academy of Music. Mr. From has also studied on full scholarship at several international music festivals, including Morningside Music Bridge, Orford Musique, Art of the Piano, and Verbier Festival in Switzerland during the summer of 2021.

In Fall 2022,  Henry will begin study on full scholarship at the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Canada.
