Battle Hymn of the Republic
Rhea Carmon

The Battle Hymn of the Republic
A hymn born from inspiration
As a battle cry for abolition
An expression of the expectation that
This country would be here
250 years later
Still finding a way to push forward
Still looking for the truth
Still advancing toward unity
Transformed but never losing its meaning
It has become a glorious example of
What happens when we march.

Marching is movement
Not just any progression
It moves forward with purpose
It advances together as a unit
It is the story of a nation
To move as one even when the road is uncertain
To believe so strongly that you are willing to
Risk everything to see it come to pass
To Refuse to surrender to fear or hatred or despair
And know that the truth is marching on

See long before the call of the drum
Before bugles sounded their voices
To greet the story of freedom
And before fireworks urge the heavens to bloom
The heartbeat of a story rang out
A story powerful enough to become
Motivation for a movement
Bold living that encouraged our expression
The movement of dreamers,
Workers, soldiers, teachers, farmers, builders, artists, scientists
And even little children
Was born into a spiritual calling that cannot be refused
All men are created equal
A simple expression of the Golden Rule
Because truth is marching on

Can you hear it?
Approaching on the whisper of the river
The melody of the voices in the mountains
The harmony of footsteps moving in synchronicity
With our faith
To sing an unseen hymn of freedom
A call to all to believe enough to
Raise more than flags
But instead lift up one another
To celebrate more than independence
But find the courage to champion interdependence
To protect
To strengthen
To leave this republic
Better than we found it
This is our call to believe in more
And to keep marching
Every step an opportunity for promise
Every voice a story of our triumph
And every heartbeat the cadence for justice

So that the truth keeps marching on!

Glory, Glory Hallelujah!
Glory, Glory Hallelujah!
Glory, Glory Hallelujah!

The truth is marching on!!!!!!

Amen!
