Evelyn J. Jack is a professional vocalist, a mother of three, and a grandmother of three with one on the way. She is a native of Memphis, TN and presently a resident of Knoxville, TN. After graduating from Hamilton High School in Memphis, TN, she received the first full-ride scholarship to Virginia Union University in Richmond, VA, majoring in Music Education with a minor in English. While at Virginia Union, Evelyn was an auditioned member of The VUU Touring Choir which toured across the United States.
After college, she had a successful career in the retail industry. Some of her positions included: Assistant Manager at Sears in Knoxville, TN; Assistant Manager of Casual Corner; Manager of Corporate Casual Corner (Chicago, IL); Area Manager of Dillards Department Store (Memphis, TN). After moving to Knoxville, Evelyn became an Area Manager, an Assistant Buyer, and a Merchandise Coordinator at Miller & Rhoads. She and the store manager personally closed Miller & Rhoads and Hess’s. Later she was hired by Dillards Department Store as an Area Manager, a position she maintained for almost twenty years.
After Dillards, Evelyn transitioned to Knox County Schools as a Special Education Assistant eventually retiring after almost 20 years. While there, she became a member of Talent Trek, a full-service talent agency with four offices in the Southeast. Talent Trek affords Evelyn the opportunity to do commercials and act in the genre of murder mysteries currently seen on television. Evelyn is a voice teacher who has students thriving in their chosen artistic pursuits. Additionally, she was blessed with a call from Mr. Hallerin Hilton Hill asking her to step in for another vocalist to learn a song he wrote titled “The Dream” for The Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame and perform it the next evening. As a result, she was hired to be the voice of The Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, a position she holds to this very day.
Evelyn’s accomplishments include: Her performance band EJack and SOULE • Protégé of Mr. James Hyter (Famous Vocalist for Memphis in May Sunset Symphony) • Tribute for Ruby Wilson (Famous Memphis Vocalist) • Member of The Knoxville WordPlayers for Two Seasons • Actress for the Oak Ridge Playhouse for Two Seasons participating in two major plays • “The Diva Next Door” with The Knoxville Jazz Orchestra • Awarded the first ever 2013 George Spelvin Award for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role • First official concert in 2012 at Wallace Memorial produced by Tyson Jordan and Thomas and Marie Dean for One Love Ministries Benefiting Haiti • 2013 Champion Award Recipient from The Rotary Club of Knoxville • Annual Smoky Mountain Gospel Explosion Award
Her proudest moments include receiving the 2014-2015 Appreciation Award for The World’s Greatest Teacher as well as accepting a signed Spaulding basketball for singing The National Anthem for UT Ladies Basketball Camp presented by the players.
Music has also provided Evelyn other blessings such as solo and full band performances with: The Knoxville Museum of Arts • University of Tennessee • Knoxville College and its Homecoming celebrations • Knoxville Opera Gospel Choir • Rossini Festival • Kuumba Festival • Market Square Jazz • Knoxville Jazz Orchestra • The Tennessee Theater • The Bijou Theater • Featured musical guest at area churches, restaurants, weddings, receptions and other venues in Knoxville, Chattanooga and Memphis.
Other professional endeavors include: Vocal performances on WBIR • Coordinator for fashion shows at West Town Mall and The Hyatt Regency • Emcee for area fashion shows by YR Productions • Emcee for youth benefits held at The Bijou and Knoxville Center.
As a professional vocalist, Evelyn is also a background vocalist for The Band GRAN TORINO, Ashley Campbell (Daughter of The Late Glen Campbell), and Will Carter (Guitarist/Recording Artist), as well as a vocalist for area studios. She is scheduled to appear with The Jazz Orchestra in the Annual Christmas Concert, The Jefferson City Memorial Church Concert Series as Guest Artist 2024 as well as other performances scheduled for the rest of this year.
