SARAH HANAHAN

Sarah Hanahan is an up-and-coming jazz saxophonist in New York City. In 2015, Sarah was awarded a full scholarship to study jazz performance at the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz within the Hartt School of Music (University of Hartford). Her college professors include well-known jazz saxophone performers Abraham Burton, Rene McLean, and Javon Jackson.

In the winter of 2022, Sarah completed her Masters Degree at the Juilliard School. While there, she had the pleasure of studying with some of the greats of our time including Billy Drummond and Marc Cary. Recently, Sarah has been working with many renowned musicians including Dee Dee Bridgewater, Nat Reeves, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Joseph Farnsworth, Ulysses Owens Jr., Jason Moran, and many others. 

Sarah plays regularly in venues around NYC including Smalls Jazz Club, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Dizzy’s Club, Smoke Jazz Club, The Django, and more. She also recently had the opportunity to play with the Alto Summit curated byJazz at Lincoln Center at the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival.

Sarah tours both nationwide and internationally with Ulysses Owens Jr. and Generation Y, Sherrie Miracle and the Diva Orchestra, Joe Farnsworth, and the Grammy award-winning Mingus Big Band.

Sarah Hanahan was recently featured in Jazz Night in America's first-ever class of Youngbloods, hosted by Christian McBride. As described on NPR, the series features "five up-and-coming jazz geniuses who are revolutionizing the genre," all of whom are under the age of 30. Aside from playing, Sarah enjoys teaching and composing. Stay tuned for her debut album - coming soon!
