Rosalyn McPherson founded The ROZ Group in July 2005. She leads her company in providing strategic planning, project management, fundraising support, and public engagement. Her firm is particularly adept at facilitating strategic planning focus groups and public discourse, thus providing opportunities for the underrepresented among us to speak to important issues that impact their lives. The firm also manages the creative development and feasibility studies for museum exhibitions and historic sites.
Prior to launching her firm, Roz had a distinguished career in marketing and educational content development and subsequently science museum administration. From 2000 to 2005, she served as Senior Vice President for the Science Center at the Franklin Institute (Philadelphia, PA). In this role, she had day-to-day responsibility for managing the visitor experience aspects, exhibit development and expanding varied audiences. From 1976 to 2000, Roz worked in increasing expansive roles in the publishing industry where she ultimately served as Senior Vice President and Publisher for Time Life Education (Alexandria, VA). Time, Inc., McGraw Hill, Inc., Scholastic Inc., and CBS, Inc. are among the companies where Roz spent the first half of her career. From 2014 to 2016, Roz served as President & CEO of the Urban League of Philadelphia where she was engaged in workforce development and housing initiatives. She prides herself in having an extensive international base of associates and contacts.
Roz has an MBA in Marketing from Fairleigh Dickinson University (Teaneck, NJ) and a BS in Secondary Education from Southern University & A&M College (Baton Rouge, LA). She currently serves as the co-vice chair of the board of Community College of Philadelphia and is a former Board member with Mental Health Partners for Southeastern Pennsylvania, National Philanthropic Trust, First Person Arts, and the Philly Ad Club. Roz was awarded the lifetime achievement award in 2022 by the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists. A published writer specializing in memoir and personal essays, Roz is the daughter of an Army officer and an elementary school teacher. She has traveled and lived around the world since childhood, and credits that experience with fostering her appreciation for the world’s varied cultures. She is known for cooking and hosting Sunday dinners with her native Louisiana Creole food.
