Dr. Ashley Jordan
African American Museum in Philadelphia, President & CEO

Dr. Ashley Jordan joined the African American Museum in Philadelphia as President & CEO in September 2021. In this role, she leads the institution’s strategic vision, advancing its mission to preserve, interpret, and celebrate the African American experience.

Prior to her appointment, Dr. Jordan served as Senior Director of Development at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Ohio, where she played a key role in advancing philanthropic growth and institutional sustainability. She brings extensive experience in managing and leading cultural institutions dedicated to elevating African American history and heritage.

Dr. Jordan was appointed by Joseph R. Biden to serve on the National Museum and Library Services Board in Washington, D.C., reflecting her national leadership in the museum field. Her career also includes serving as Executive Director of the Evansville African American Museum in Indiana and as a curator at the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center in Wilberforce, Ohio.

She holds a Doctorate in United States History and a Master of Arts in Public History from Howard University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in History from Kent State University.

Dr. Jordan is the recipient of numerous professional, academic, and civic honors, including the Pace Setter Award from the Association of African American Museums and the Black Excellence Award from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), as well as multiple doctoral fellowships.

She is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and The Links, Incorporated, reflecting her continued commitment to service, leadership, and community engagement.
