Eric Lu won First Prize of the 19th International Chopin Piano Competition 2025 and First Prize at the Leeds International Piano Competition in 2018 at the age of 20. Recent and forthcoming orchestral collaborations include the London, Chicago, Boston, NHK, Finnish Radio, Bournemouth, Tokyo, Singapore, Taipei, Shanghai, and Yomiuri Nippon symphonies; the Los Angeles, Oslo, Royal Stockholm, and Royal philharmonics; the Ochestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg; and the Swedish Chamber and Scottish Chamber orchestras, among others. Conductors he collaborates with include Riccardo Muti, Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, Edward Gardner, Marin Alsop, Mark Elder, Thomas Dausgaard, Tabita Berglund, Vasily Petrenko, Joann Falletta, and Eliahu Inbal. Tonight marks his Philadelphia Orchestra debut. As a recitalist, he has performed at the Concertgebouw, Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Leipzig Gewandhaus, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Wigmore Hall, Cologne’s Philharmonie, San Francisco’s Davies Hall, Cal Performances, the Aspen Music Festival, BOZAR Brussels, the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, the 92Y New York, the Seoul Arts Center, Shanghai’s Symphony Hall, Victoria Hall in Singapore, the Chopin and his Europe Festival, and Sala São Paulo.


Mr. Lu is an exclusive Warner Classics recording artist. His fourth album, featuring Schubert’s Impromptus, was released in January 2026. His previous albums on Warner Classics include a Schubert album, which won BBC Music Magazine’s Instrumental Choice, and a Brahms-Chopin-Schumann album.


Born in Massachusetts in 1997, Mr. Lu first came to international attention as a laureate of the 2015 International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, aged just 17. He was awarded the International German Piano Award in 2017, an Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2021, and was a BBC New Generation Artist from 2019 to 2022. He is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied with Robert McDonald and Jonathan Biss. He also studied with Dang Thai Son and has been mentored by Mitsuko Uchida and Imogen Cooper. He is now based in Berlin and Boston.
