Mother Bethel Church Choir

The birthplace of the African Methodist Episcopal denomination and the oldest parcel of land continuously owned by African Americans, Mother Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church is under the visionary leadership of Rev. Mark K. Tyler, Ph.D. 

Select voices of the Mother Bethel A.M.E. Mass Choir are participating in this evening’s Welcome America concert.  The mass choir is the official traveling choir and music ambassador for the Mother Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church.  Founded a little over seven years ago by Director of Music, Jonas Crenshaw, Jr., the mass choir draws its membership from each of the choirs within the church.  From classical and spiritual arrangements to the best of traditional and contemporary gospel selections, the Mother Bethel AME Mass choir strives to provide music that meets the spiritual and inspirational needs of any audience. Though the choir has only been in existence for a short time, the Mother Bethel AME Mass Choir has been blessed to have had several notable performance opportunities which include the National Urban League National Convention and the NAACP National Convention. The choir was honored to be featured as the opening act at the 2016 Democratic National Convention and, a couple of months later, sang at the Liberty Medal Ceremony for Representative John Lewis.  This dedicated group of singers has performed with extraordinary musical talents such as Phillip Bailey, Selena Johnson, Eric Benet, Howard Hewitt, Chrisette Michele, and Eddie Levert.  

Jonas Crenshaw, Jr., a native of Meridian, Mississippi, joined the Mother Bethel AME church family in March 2013.
