Jonathan Taylor Rush brings passion, unique interpretation, and a refreshing energy to the orchestral experience. In fall 2020 he was appointed assistant conductor of the Baltimore Symphony. Two years later he was promoted to associate conductor.Previously, he served as music director of the Buckeye Philharmonic, as well as conducting fellow of the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestras. In 2018 he was a Project Inclusion Conducting Fellow with the Chicago Sinfonietta and in 2019 was named assistant conductor. With that ensemble, he worked alongside music professionals and fellow conductors to help “redefine classical music” by changing its face and encouraging diversity in orchestras across the United States. At age 22, as winner of the 2018 Respighi Prize in Conducting, he made his professional orchestra debut with the Chamber Orchestra of New York at Carnegie Hall.
Mr. Rush continues to conduct both nationally and internationally, with notable recent debuts including the Chicago Symphony, the Detroit Symphony, the Reno Chamber Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony, and the Nairobi Philharmonic. This season he has debuted with the Washington National Opera at the Kennedy Center and the Minnesota Orchestra. Tonight marks his Philadelphia Orchestra debut.
Mr. Rush’s mentors and former conducting teachers include Marin Alsop, Mei-Ann Chen,and Joseph Young. Mr. Rush received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the Ohio State University and a Master of Music degree in Orchestral Conducting from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University
