Francis Casadesus
Romance Provençale and Danse or viola and piano

(Born Dec. 2, 1870 in Paris; died there June 27, 1954)

Francis Casadesus, a French conductor, composer, and violinist, was a prominent member of a distinguished French musical family and the brother of Henri and Marius Casadesus. An integral part of the international classical music landscape, the Casadesus family maintained their position for well over a century.

Casadesus founded the American Conservatory at Fontainbleau and composed two charming duets for viola and piano, as well as songs for voice, viola, and piano, Op. 91.

The Romance Provençale and Danse for viola and piano was published in 1947. It is one of three chamber works that Casadesus wrote, the other two being the Divertissement petit russien for cella or viola and piano and Morceau de Concert, Op. 9 for viola and piano. In addition, he composed operas, a ballet, and symphonic music.
