Jamaal Bowman began his dance training at the age of 14 in Maryland, where he was born and raised. In 2021, he graduated from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as a Director's Scholar, under the direction of Donna Faye Burchfield. In his time at The University of the Arts, he has collaborated with Nora Chipaumire, Tommie Waheed-Evans, Jesse Zaritt, Helen Pickett, Fana Fraser, Nacera Belaza, and Sidra Bell. Post graduation, he has worked with VonHoward Project, Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers, and AIM by Kyle Abraham. In his time with AIM, Jamaal has been featured in Dance Magazine, W Magazine, Essence, Vogue, and Harper’s Bazaar. Jamaal’s personal practices are centered around queerness, black joy, theater, improvisation and comedy.
