Scott Boyd, Scenic Designer, is a Professor in the Department of Theatre and Dance. He received his M.F.A. in Theatrical Design and Technical Production from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. At North Carolina, he studied under world-renown designer Andreas Nomikos and four-time Tony Award winner Patricia Zipprodt. Mr. Boyd has extensive design and technical production experience on the community, educational, and professional levels. Especially notable productions include scenic designs for A Most Wanted Man for Hope University/BBC (Liverpool, U.K.), The Chocolate Soldier for the National Opera Company (Washington, D.C.); Camelot’s Ruby and Empire Gas for the Lost Tribe Theatre Company (NYC); and Shirtwaist and Sus Manos for the Flying Fig Theatre Company (NYC). Mr. Boyd is a ten-time finalist for the First Night Awards for Outstanding Design and a three-time winner for his designs of The Tempest and The Tide Shall Cover the Earth. He served as the resident designer and technical director for the nationally acclaimed Nashville Children's Theatre for five years and spent nine years on the faculty of Austin Peay State University before joining the faculty at Middle Tennessee State University in 2004 where he is a member of the Honor’s Faculty. Mr. Boyd is also a member of the United Scenic Artists Local #829.
Mr. Boyd has served as a Visiting Professor in Theatrical Design at the University of Salford (Salford, U.K.) and held the Chair of the Fred Coe Residency in Theatre at Vanderbilt University. Mr. Boyd has given presentations at the Design Principles and Practices Research Conference at Sapienza University of Rome (Rome, Italy) and the Athens Institute for Education and Research (Athens, Greece). He regularly teaches courses in British Theatre as part of the Cooperative Center for Studies Abroad consortium in London, U.K.
