Sean Gaez
Fellow, John Downey Creation Project

Sean Gaez is an 18-year-old musician attending Wauwatosa West High School. He began his MYSO journey in eighth grade, joining Sinfonia as a violinist. He later rejoined in 11th grade as a trumpet player in the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra before advancing to the Senior Symphony.

Apart from his focus on the trumpet and violin, Sean has gained experience playing the flute, piccolo, clarinet, alto and baritone saxophone, French horn, viola, and piano in school orchestras/bands, musical pits, string choirs, and more. He has utilized his instrumental knowledge to compose and arrange since fourth grade.

Sean is extremely grateful to be a part of the John Downey Creation Project and excited for the debut of his piece, The Moonlit Marquee, which reflects his love for early film and Broadway scores. Thanks to this wonderful program, Sean has had the pleasure of working with composition mentor Dr. Frank Stemper, allowing him to further his compositional studies.

He would like to thank his band directors Alexander Hunt and Mark Wampfler; Senior Symphony music director Carter Simmons; his composition mentor, Dr. Frank Stemper; and his violin instructor, Tiffany Chang, for helping him make the most of his time at MYSO.
