Sarah Demar is a high school senior who has played the horn for eight years. She is a member of MYSO's Senior Symphony and Oconomowoc High School's Wind Symphony and participates in WSMA solo and ensemble competitions every year. Sarah began composing four years ago and has created several pieces for a variety of ensembles. Sarah is grateful to her composition mentor, Sam Ecoff, for his help and guidance throughout the composition process. Currently, she is working on a piece for her school district’s middle school band. Sarah was thrilled to have the experience and is excited to hear Dreams of Each Other performed by MYSO's Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra.
Composer Program Notes:
Dreams of Each Other is a musical composition dedicated to Sarah's long-distance friends. The emotional strain put on a relationship because of its distance can be great, and this piece inspires to capture that. She stated to Metropolitan that “the people I love will always be in my dreams. I cannot wait until I can see them again!” The piece starts with a thin texture and a floaty melody; the first theme of the piece reflects a sense of longing and wanting. As the piece continues, a second, more triumphant theme is integrated and continually builds. A modified version of the first theme returns, bringing a moment of clarity and calm before a triumphant end of friends' dreams of seeing each other coming true.
