Raziah-Alessandra Go
Fellow, John Downey Creation Project

Raziah-Alessandra Go, Sandie to her friends and family, is an eighth grader who attends Pilgrim Park Middle School in Brookfield. Her interest in music began when she started piano lessons at the age of five, and she has since performed in many recitals and concerts. She is currently participating in the Royal Conservatory Certificate Program for piano and music theory, and she received the State Award for her most recent exam. In addition, she was named winner of the Flute Chorale concerto competition in 2025. This is her third year as a flutist at MYSO and her first year in the Chamber Flute Ensemble and Philharmonia orchestra.

Sandie first gained interest in composition through the talented musicians around her, especially her piano teacher, Aeron Ogden. She also arranged popular songs for piano when she was younger and later hoped to expand her skill set to composing.

In addition to music, Sandie likes reading, writing, drawing, and playing volleyball. She also enjoys public speaking and was a member of her school’s forensics and FBLA teams over the past year. Sandie is grateful to God for all her accomplishments. She would like to thank her parents, music teachers, and directors at MYSO for supporting her through her years in music. Additionally, she is thankful to her composition mentor Mr. Christian Ellenwood for helping her write and finalize her piece.

Sandie’s John Downey Creation Project piece, Nightfall, is meant to create the mysterious mood found in suspenseful, adventure stories. Taking inspiration from pieces such as Danse Macabre, it begins with a bouncy yet dark melody that is repeated throughout the piece, although it gives way to a much more melancholic tone in the middle. Heavy harmonies lead to a bright major chord before returning to a suspenseful, quick beat. Sandie wanted to evoke a sense of eerie mystery through her composition.
