Shreya Girish
2020 Chamber Flute Ensemble Concerto Competition Winner

A junior at Brookfield East High School, Shreya Girish has played the flute for five years, and has studied with Emma Koi for four. Shreya has been participating in MYSO since age 12 and has performed in many of their ensembles. She is currently the co-concertmaster of the Chamber Flute Ensemble and a member of the Senior Symphony.

 

Shreya has won many awards for flute, including: MYSO concerto competitions in 2018 and 2020; second place in the Wisconsin Flute Festival Young Artist Competition in 2018 and 2019; first place for the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music scholarship auditions in 2017; honorable mention at the Chicago Flute Club Student Competition in 2019; and WSMA Solo & Ensemble Exemplary Performance Award with an invitation to play in the Exemplary Soloist Recital in 2019. She was also selected as a winner of Civic Music Association of Milwaukee’s High School Competition in 2021.

 

Shreya has been a member of the UW-Milwaukee Honors Bands, and was invited to be a part of the 2018 UWAY All-Star Band. She was also a member of the WSMA Honors Orchestra as principal flute in 2018 and 2021. Shreya is involved in her school’s music program, as a Drum Major for the marching band. Some of her favorite musical experiences have been being a part of the pit orchestra for her school’s musicals in 2019 and 2021.

 

Along with playing the flute, she has been teaching flute lessons for over a year, and is an accomplished classical pianist, ranking “superior” the in Wisconsin Federation of Music Clubs Festival and winning awards in the MAPTA piano competition for many years. Shreya isn’t sure what her future plans are, but she will continue her flute studies throughout high school and wants to keep playing in college!

 

Shreya would like to thank her family, friends, conductors, and teachers for all of their help and support for her music career.
