Sophie Gerew, 16, is a sophomore at Homestead High School. She began playing the flute four years ago. She is involved in her high school band, orchestra, and is drum major in the marching band. This year Sophie played in Homestead's pit orchestra for the musical Cinderella. Sophie has been a member of MYSO since 2019, participating in the Flute Chorale, Wind Ensemble, Chamber Flute Ensemble, and Philharmonia. This year she was awarded Honorable Mention in the Philharmonia Concerto Competition. In addition, Sophie has been a member of UWM's Honors and All Star Bands and UWAY. Sophie has had the great fortune to have Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra flutist Heather Yarmel as her flute teacher and mentor. 

When not playing the flute, she enjoys playing lacrosse, running, crafting, and playing the piano.
