Lucas LaBeau
Fellow, John Downey Creation Project

Lucas LaBeau is currently a junior at Greendale High School. He is currently in MYSO's Bronzeville Jazz Ensemble. Lucas started classical piano at age of four, and jazz piano at age eight. He also started classical violin at the age of seven. While Lucas currently still continues to play classical music, he has made jazz piano his primary focus, and studies with Mark Davis, a well known jazz pianist throughout the Milwaukee area and founder of the Milwaukee Jazz Institute.

Lucas began playing in the MYSO jazz ensembles when he was in fourth grade, and has continued ever since. Through MYSO, Lucas has had the opportunity to meet and study with many talented musicians and faculty, as well as gig around the Milwaukee area.

Through improvisation and creativity brought on by his jazz studies, Lucas has grown to love writing and composing music, one of such compositions being his piece "Perdurable" for the John Downey Creation Project.

The word "Perdurable" means "lasting" in Spanish, something Lucas felt described this solemn piece well.
