Sarah Demar is a sophomore who has played the horn for six years. She is a member of MYSO's Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra and Oconomowoc High School's Wind Symphony. In addition, she participates in WSMA's solo and ensemble festivals every year.
Sarah began composing two years ago and has created several pieces for large and small ensembles. She is grateful to her composition mentor, Professor Christian Ellenwood, for his help and guidance throughout the composition process. Currently, she is working on a suite for one of her school's bands. Sarah was thrilled to have the experience and is excited to hear Until You Come Home Again performed by MYSO's Philharmonia!
Until You Come Home Again is a musical composition dedicated to Sarah's older brother, Scott, who is serving in the military. This piece aims to convey both the emotional strain that families experience when a loved one is in the armed forces and the joy they feel when they are reunited. The piece starts with quiet strings, and the first theme of the piece reflects a sense of longing. As the piece continues, a second, more active theme is integrated and continually builds to a triumphant return of the first theme, which symbolizes Sarah's brother finally returning home.
