Alexander Horton
Bass

Alex Horton joined the Alabama Symphony Orchestra as principal bass in 2017. Prior to joining the ASO, he completed one year of graduate study at Indiana University as a student of Bruce Bransby. He previously received his Bachelor of Music degree from Florida State University, where he studied with Melanie Punter. He has performed with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, Mobile Symphony Orchestra, Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Gulf Coast, Tallahassee Bach Parley, and L'arte del Mondo. He has attended several summer festivals on fellowship, including Aspen Music Festival, Marrowstone Music Festival, and National Music Festival. He also attended Brevard Music Center for four summers. Alex is passionate about music education. He maintains a private studio in Birmingham and is a faculty member of Samford University and the University of North Alabama.  

Alex plays on a bass made by Albert Jackstadt in 2006. Outside of performing and teaching, he enjoys cooking, running, hiking, and travelling.
